Traffic and Transportation
The problem of traffic congestion in Collins View is obvious to everyone. For some time, CVNA has been exploring our options for addressing these issues. Finding a solution has proven elusive, due in part to the large scope of the problem. We now realize that addressing the traffic problems in Collins View will depend on engaging surrounding neighborhoods and municipalities, including South Burlingame, Arnold Creek, Lake Oswego, and Dunthorpe. The time has come to formalize our own position and begin outreach efforts to these other groups.
Transportation Chair Prakash Joshi sent a letter regarding Collins View's traffic issues to Commissioner Sam Adams in November (year!?), outlining the problems we are experiencing and asking him to follow through with the transportation study promised at our June meeting. CVNA expects to follow-up with an official Board resolution along similar lines, intended to keep the issue before Commissioner Adams. It will be a starting point from which to seek additional letters and resolutions of support from surrounding neighborhoods.
The traffic issue will be a priority in the new year. A task force was formed at our January meeting to take on moving the process forward. Please bring your thoughts and comments on these issues to ANY meeting!

Transportation Task Force
Our new transportation task force is starting to contact other neighborhoods surrounding Collins View that also have a stake in the traffic situation along SW Terwilliger Blvd, SW Boones Ferry Rd. and SW Taylor's Ferry Rd. The task force is currently made up of Thomas Hagerman (superintendent of Riverdale School District), David Ellis (Lewis & Clark), Dave & Dixie Johnston (CVNA Land Use Committee chairs), Gene Lynard (CVNA Crime & Safety Committee chair), and Prakash Joshi (CVNA Transportation Chair). We are also hoping to have a participant from PDOT join the team. These folks will be taking the lead in our campaign to resolve the complicated traffic flow problems that occur at Collins View's major intersections.
In the short term, Prakash continues to work with PDOT on better synchronizing the lights at Terwilliger and Taylor's Ferry. We'll soon be getting more sophisticated sensors that will better match the length of the green light to the number of cars in a lane. Thanks Prakash!
